Project Reflections and Future:

With an idea of collage creation and different image editing techniques, I felt it was time to explore potential interfaces or systems which could facilitate a hauntological collage creator. I began with some interface and theme moodboards to reference and help guide my design process. Paper wireframes and user flows, were then used to eplore ways in which a user may experience the collage creator, explaintions and rationals are given for each interpretation.

FIGMA:

My prototyping and design work was predominately carried out using FIGMA, a link to the document and its varies pages:  https://www.figma.com/file/efIEvBMrVR4cPMm8z3ZcoI/Hauntology-Site

My first step was to create some moodboards and style guides, so some internet image searching for references was carried out:

Style Guides:

Interface style reference:

Here I gathered imagery of 90's and 90's inspired interfaces. Again I want to play and tap into the idea of recyling and reusing past aesthics, I want my collage creator to feel 'placeless' or 'era' less in relation to its design. If the site was designed purely to look like a 90's site this would be counter productive, this why I try to only take influence from, not replicate the below style guide.

Theme/Aesthetical reference:

Below is an aesthetical guide in which I have collaged imagery which feels in line with my own interpretation of Hauntology.

User Flow and Wireframing

User Flow Version 1:

User Flow V.1.png

V1 Notes:
The landing page would provide the user a brief understanding of the project, its intentions, and be provided with a description of this projects interpretation of Hauntology.

The user would then move through the site, first into the collage creation page, with options provided to shift between the image and audio galleries.

Once happy with their collage the user would be able to move onto the print page to ideally produce a physical version of their collage

User Flow Version 2:

User Flow V.2.png

V2 Notes:
This version of the site would keep back some of the descriptions and intentions of the site in order to provide as little influence or assumptions to the user before they begin selecting their desired media and creating their collage.
The user would be provided with this detail after the completion of their first collage, and then be able to progress to the print stage on the site, where they would be able to save and/or print their collage.
The user could also possibly be provided with some form of ‘Hauntology rating. (unsure if 100% at this stage)

User Flow Version 3:

User Flow V.3.png

V3 Notes:
Version 3 of the site focuses on sharability of the collages created taking on a of their own, this is done through the ability to share via social media channels, a zine containing a collation of user collages, and the ability for a user to select user created collages and edit them further.

It does not contain a audio gallery, I feel that with the addition of features to allow sharing and editing of user created work it does not feel nessisary.

Prototype relfections:

Although these prototypes are not going to be taken further, and a lot of their attributes will likely be dropped in the final version of my project, they were an important learning step, and a way of exploring my idea of the the interface, figuring out what worked best and what didn't.

Creating these prototyings has guided me to 'trim down' my idea. Going forward I am going to remove the seperate image and audio galleries, as I feel the ability for the user to explore these aspects of the project, so early on adds a level of complexity that is perhaps a little overbearing/ is not needed at all. This is similar for the possibility of a 'hauntology' zine. This aspect of the project was just a way to explore how the reach of the project could be increased and their are perhaps better ways than a physical zine to achieve this.
